Description

Goal of the course

The AOTrauma Course— Management of Fractures of the Hand and Wrist aims to create a clinically centered learning environment where principles and techniques of internal fixation in patients with hand and wrist problems can be understood, applied, and demonstrated appropriately to improve the quality of outcomes.

Target participants

Medical practitioners engaged in the field of hand and wrist surgery. They must actively be involved in trauma management.

Participants ideally have completed the AOTrauma Basic Principles of Fracture Management Course. Participants must be willing to share their ideas and be able to communicate well in English.

Course description

The AOTrauma Course—Management of Fractures of the Hand and Wrist is a highly interactive environment where participants are encouraged to apply and discuss the principles, skills, and techniques for treating hand and wrist injuries. The course will concentrate on internal fixation of fractures as well as skeletal reconstruction procedures. At the conclusion of the course, participants will have a broader and better understanding of how, when, and where to apply their knowledge in their clinical practice.

The course will be taught in a modular format. Each module consists of a small number of short evidence-based lectures, which will cover the key information required. Discussing cases in small groups as well as panel discussions will help participants to understand decision-making and management skills. At the anatomical specimen laboratory participants are trained in the application of different techniques and approaches.
