AO Trauma Masters Course—Knee Injuries and Deformities

Course description

The course is delivered using a combination of small group discussions, cases, exercises with anatomical specimens, and summary lectures. All activities are moderated by expert faculty in a highly interactive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to discuss the cases and content in an open manner and to share their own experiences.

Goal of the course

The AO Trauma Masters Course—Knee Injuries and Deformities addresses current concepts and state-of-the-art treatment options in orthopedic trauma, deformity, and arthritis. The course covers several topics and has been planned based on the common and critical patient problems related to the specific topics.

Target participants

The course is aimed at certified surgeons who have been practicing in the field of orthopedic trauma for many years and who are willing to share their experiences on the specific topic of the course.

Participants should have completed the AO Trauma Courses—Basic Principles and Advanced Principles of Fracture Management and must be able to communicate well in English.

Learning objectives
Describe normal radiographic alignment parameters to assist with distal femoral and proximal tibial fracture and deformity treatment
List relative indications for dual plating and nail plating of complex distal femoral fractures
Apply pattern recognition to injury films about the knee, assisting in failure avoidance and preoperative planning
Perform variants of the lateral, medial, and posterior exposures to the knee, helpful in complex fracture and post-traumatic deformity management
Describe common techniques for approach, reduction, and fixation of tibial eminence fractures and meniscal pathology associated with knee injuries
Create a surgical algorithm for management of patellofemoral pathology including fractures and instability
Perform common osteotomies for treatment of genu valgum, genu varum, and intraarticular malalignment
Prevent, identify, and treat complications of fracture and deformity care around the knee
