Course Objective:

This course will provide a series of lectures and hands-on workshops on common injuries and fractures of the hand and wrist. There will be close interaction with lectures and demonstrators to ensure that the participants have the opportunity to learn the latest techniques in the management of hand trauma.


Target Participants:

Specialty consulting surgeons and senior trainees interested in advancing their expertise in the management of hand and wrist injuries and pathological conditions affecting the upper limbs, and they should be actively involved in hand and wrist surgery.

Learning objectives
Describe the mechanisms of the various fractures of the hand and their radiology
Explain the principles of plating, compression, and neutralization plates
Perform the key steps in the surgical approaches to the distal radius for volar and dorsal plating
Perform the key steps in flaps for the forearm, wrist, and hand
Perform the key steps in plating, external fixation, and intramedullary fixation for hand fractures
Decide priorities for managing complex hand injuries
Plan the management of complications (malunion and nonunion) and difficult situations (eg, osteoporosis, infection)
