Description

This course is aimed at junior trainees. ATLS training is recommended before attending the course.

The aim of the course is to help the participant acquire the knowledge and skills required to manage common fractures, according to AO principles.

The course is based upon a philosophy that good fracture management requires more than the practical skills required to ‘fix’ a fracture. The competent fracture surgeon should understand bone physiology, response to injury and the processes of repair. Good decision-making is the key to fracture management and interaction between participants and a large faculty during lectures, group discussion and practical sessions will help you develop these skills. Practical sessions involve the fixation of common diaphyseal and articular fractures on real size artificial bone models, using AO TK approved instruments and implants.

Much of the course can be aligned to the trauma and orthopaedic component of the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme. Participants will have the opportunity, on request, of completing relevant workplace based assessments.

The AO Foundation is a non-profit organisation, based in Switzerland, and dedicated to the advancement of the care of those suffering from musculoskeletal injury and disease.

As you drive down the road, take the first right before you reach the bottom which will bypass their car park. Follow this road (one way), under the MRI building and past the nursery and you will see the Ark car park on the left, and the Ark Centre on the right.

Ark Car Park - The ARK Car Park is situated opposite The ARK which is barrier controlled. If you have not been provided with an entry code, contact ARK reception by pressing the buzzer via the barrier control box at the car park entrance.
